Dr. Horowitz was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His mother and many aunts, uncles and cousins still reside in the area and he visits frequently. He left home at the age of 17 for New York City and higher education at Queens College of the City University of New York, where he completed his premedical studies and earned a BA in History.

Before starting podiatry school, the doctor took his long planned solo bicycle trip through New England and during his senior year was able to combine his hospital externship training programs with a motorcycle trip to the West Coast.

Graduating from Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine in 1983, he headed back to New York for his postgraduate training. Three years later he moved to the Washington metro area to be closer to his brother and started his podiatry practice in 1986. Almost ten years later his carefree single life ended when he met and married his wife, Karin, an attorney with the Environmental Protection Agency. Soon after, he put his beloved motorcycle in storage and has not started it since. Today, they are the proud parents of 8 year-old twin daughters, Aliza and Talia. When not at the office, Dr. Horowitz enjoys playing handyman at home and chasing his girls around the dining room table. He also continues to be active in his local synagogue and can occasionally still be seen on his touring bike.
